Sydney Vigotov received her early training from the Ballet School of Chapel Hill under the supervision of M'Liss Dorrance, Killian Manning, Carol Richards, and Tyler Walters. The Ballet School afforded her valuable performance opportunities with the Chapel Hill Dance Theatre, the Festival of North Carolina Dance, and the Moscow Ballet. At age fifteen, Sydney was accepted to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for contemporary dance on full scholarship. She graduated with a high school diploma (and contemporary dance concentration) at age seventeen.
Sydney's time at UNCSA allowed her the honor of training with artists such as Trish Casey, Warren Conover, Fanchon Cordell, Brenda Daniels, Nina Danilova, Kee-Juan Han, Melissa Hayden, Dianne Markham, Frank Smith, Christine Spizzo, Sean Sullivan, and guest residents Monica Bill Barnes, Roxane D'Orleans-Juste, Liz Lerman, Kirsten Simone, and Helen Simoneau. She was selected to attend a two-week summer intensive to study Noh Theatre with Theatre Nohgaku during their residency at UNCSA on full scholarship. Following her experience at UNCSA, she recieved her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance and Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Sydney had the pleasure of studying under UNCG faculty members Duane Cyrus, Jan Van Dyke, John Gamble, Robin Gee, Jill Green, Larry Lavender, Killian Manning, Eluza Santos, and B.J. Sullivan. She has performed works by choreographers Brenda Daniels, Mark Dendy, John Gamble, Robin Gee, Dianne Markham, and Helen Simoneau.
Sydney's work has been commissioned by "Art In The Garden" Sculpture Invitational, Castle McCulloch, The Creative Center, Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands, Durty Durham Art Collective, Ear Pwr (Carpark Records), Elsewhere Living Museum, the Greensboro Summer Solstice Festival, Gogwell Films, LiLa (ODD Crew Records), LivingBrush Bodypainting, Lowes Foods, Miss Eaves, Mixed Tape Productions, Novant Health, Oly Studio Décor, Quilla (Ritual Fire Records), Silverglass Productions, Tryon International Equestian Center, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Whole Foods Market, the Winston-Salem Pride Festival, and Winter Light Gallery & Art Studios, and has been featured in Clarion Content, Consequence of Sound, Elle Magazine, Filter Magazine, The Greensboro News & Record, Huffington Post, NME Magazine, NY Magazine, The Raleigh News & Observer, The Village Voice, We Rave You, The Winston-Salem Journal, Women's Health Magazine, and Yes Weekly. She has had the privilege of working alongside Emmy award-winning make-up artist Dean Jones, five-time multidisciplinary World Bodypainting Champions Scott Fray and Madelyn Greco, and actor Michael Welch.
Sydney has completed projects ranging from guerrilla performance to event design, public speaking, and comedy skits featured in ComedyCentral.com's "Insider". In 2013, her documentary "Growing Community" won the first place and audience choice awards at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Sustainable Short Film Festival. In 2014, she entered the Emerging Artist category of the North American Bodypainting Championships, placing 5th out of 16 global competitors. In 2016, Sydney co-directed the music video for electronic music producer Quilla's single "You Got It", which premiered via We Rave You and at Living Art America, the world's first bodypainting film festival. In 2017, she choreographed the music video for Brooklyn-based rapper Miss Eaves' single "Thunder Thighs", which premiered via Jezebel Magazine. In 2018, Sydney directed, wrote, choreographed & starred in her first short film, which was an official selection in the 2018 Carrboro Film Festival & 2020 Lift-Off Network’s First Time Filmmaker Sessions. She is currently learning to make electronic music & collaboratively creating augmented reality bodypaintings.
